To our dear Diversity Center Community,

We have been encouraged by several public health professionals that we should cancel our events tonight at Vino Cruz and Cabrillo College for the Matthew Shepard concert.

The Santa Cruz County public health guidelines on their website recommend cancelling gatherings of 50 or more people such as concerts and sporting events.

They provide further guidance for vulnerable populations of people over the age of 60 and/or people with compromised immune systems. In those cases, they also recommend limiting outings, and not going to non-essential meetings of 50 or more people.

In light of these suggestions, The Diversity Center staff are not going to go to Vino Cruz tonight, nor are we going to the Matthew Shepard concert.

We do this especially in light of the fact that we have a lot of people in our community who have compromised immune systems, and are over the age of 60.

We do want to let you know that Cheryl Anderson, the director of the Matthew Shepard production, and Cabrillo College, are moving forward with the show tonight and are doing a deep cleaning of the theater and asking people to sit further apart from one another at the show tonight.

We are sorry to miss this beautiful show tonight, but feel that we want to err on the side of caution and safeguard the health of our community members.

Thanks very kindly,

Deanna Zachary
Development and Community Relations Director
