The Jon E. Nadherny/Calciano Memorial Youth Symposium was founded in 1997 by the Nadherny/Calciano family as a way of dealing with the tragic loss of their son Jon to suicide. In conjunction with the Dominican Hospital Foundation, the family organizes the Symposium, focused on providing continuing education by offering world-class training at minimum cost.This annual symposium creates a community experience that reaches across the entire range of mental health professionals and educators. The wide variety of topics covered help foster an open dialogue among physicians, social workers, health care professionals, school personnel and public law enforcement officials. This ensures solution-creating networks and improved access to service for adolescents, young adults and their families.In conjunction with the Dominican Hospital Foundation, Education Department and Santa Cruz County Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, the Jon E. Nadherny/Calciano Memorial Youth Symposium is able to provide continuing education credit.
