2009 Transgender Day of Remembrance for the Central Coast
6:30 PM, November 20th, 2009 at the Watsonville City Plaza
sponsors | It's with deep sadness, frustration and regret that we have to cancel Transgender Day of Remembrance on Friday Nov. 20th, 2009. Unfortunately due to Mother Nature's plans for Friday evening, which include 25mph winds and rain we are going to cancel Friday's event. We as organizers really need help to insure that we can re-schedule the event, something that we very much want to do. We are very sorry to change your plans so suddenly, and we hope that you will take time out of your day to remember the more than 200 transgendered people murdered this past year. If you are interested in rescheduling the event, please contact Tara Sawyer, (831) 295-0034 or tara@birl.org. Si usted está interesado en la reprogramación del evento, por favor, póngase en contacto con Abel Murillo, (831) 295-1189 o amurillo@diversitycenter.org about the event you are invited to join us at 6:30PM on Friday, November 20th at the Watsonville City Plaza in Watsonville, California. we will be celebrating the 11th annual Transgender Day of Remembrance. this event is held each year to celebrate the lives and memorialize the deaths of transgendered people who are victims of murder due to their gender presentation. this year's event will include a candle-light vigil, speakers and local musicians and spoken word artists. who should come? all are welcome to join us in mourning and in our hopeful celebration of the future time when gender variant people are not targeted for violence or discrimination. past events have seen considerable involvement by friends, family and allies of the transgendered, gender-queer and questioning. there is no charge associated with the event and you don't have to be transgendered to attend. how do i get there? the Watsonville City Plaza is located in the city's downtown area at 358 Main St. residents of the area will probably know the plaza as the park area at the corner of Main and E. Beach Streets. attendees coming via car from areas north (Santa Cruz, San Jose, etc.) are advised that Watsonville is approximately 13 miles south of Santa Cruz along Highway 1. to get to the plaza, take the "State Highway 152 exit towards Watsonville / Gilroy" and continue approximately 2 miles. state highway 152 will eventually merge with Main St. after merging, simply look for the plaza at the corner of Main and E. Beach. attendees coming from areas south (Monterrey, etc.) are advised that Watsonville is approximately 26 miles north of Monterrey along Highway 1. to get to the plaza, take the "State Highway 152 / State Highway 129 exit towards Watsonville" and continue approximately 1.2 miles until you reach Main St. turn left and continue until you reach the plaza. attendees taking public transport are advised to take a convenient bus to the Watsonville Center transit facility. from there, walk in an easterly direction along Rodriguez St. one block to W Beach St. turn left and continue one block north-east until you reach Main St. The Santa Cruz County Metropolitan Transit District has a useful trip planner on their web page that can be very helpful in planning your trip. |
