Parade Details:
The Pride Santa Cruz LGBT Parade 2010 will gather at Pacific Avenue and Cathcart Street at 10 am on Sunday, June 6, and will step off at 11 am. We will be led by Dykes on Bikes, with Cheer San Francisco setting the pace, followed by our Grand Marshals, tbd
In this largest queer visibility action of the year, members of our community, organizations, allies, supportive groups, churches, candidates, parents, children will show our pride, activism, enthusiasm and love. To make sure that your organization is part of the action, download a Parade application here.
The City of Santa Cruz is, as always, very supportive of our presence, and we want to reciprocate by meeting all the terms of our permit – which means providing safety monitors at intersections and along the Parade route; because it’s really hard to find three dozen volunteer monitors (as well as all the volunteers for the rally), we’re sharing the opportunities to give to our community with groups in the parade: we don’t charge a cent to be in the Parade, but we do need you to provide the requisite number of volunteer monitors. Monitor training will be on Tuesday June 1st and Wednesday June 2nd at 6pm at The Diversity Center, 1117 Soquel Avenue, Santa Cruz. All monitors and drivers must attend one of the trainings.
Our permit also requires us to provide barricades and security guards and tow trucks and no parking signs and police officers – all of which adds up to about $5,000, so any donation you’d like to make will be a big help.
Consider creative ideas for your contingent (a drag queen in a convertible does not a float make – been there, done that – use a little imagination!).
