The Diversity Center is an organization dedicated to building a diverse community, promoting
health and wellbeing, and advancing social justice for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender
community of Santa Cruz County. We began our work in 1989 and continue to be a growing and
vibrant community-driven organization. Our small but dedicated staff and a strong pool of
volunteers provide a wide range of programs and services for youth, seniors, transgender people,
veterans, Latinos and the community at large. We are also home to the Triangle Speakers
program, a lending library, meeting space, and a drop-in Center. For more detailed information

Position Description:
The successful candidate will be responsible, under the supervision of the Executive Director, for
execution of many components of the organization’s fund development plan. This will include
donor communications, direct mail solicitations, event production, and relations with sponsors
and advertisers. Additional administrative responsibilities include telephones, filing, light
bookkeeping, mailings, and newsletter editing. Effective management of volunteers will be
essential to meeting organizational goals.


Fund Development Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Fund Development Committee;
  • Manage regular communications with donors, including membership renewal, donor thanks, and direct mail solicitations;
  • Maintain and update donor database;
  • Coordinate an average of 8 annual fund raising events, including budgeting, publicity, entertainment, logistics, in-kind donation procurement, and volunteer coordination;
  • Develop and support sponsorship and advertising opportunities.

Administrative Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Managing bulk mailings;
  • Developing and editing weekly e-newsletter and quarterly newsletter;
  • Ensuring website stays up to date;
  • Oversight of reception volunteers;
  • Upkeep of resource materials and lending library;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications:

  • Two years experience in fund development;
  • Demonstrated experience managing junior staff or volunteers;
  • Experience in planning and execution of small and large events with attendance ranging
  • from 100 to 2000;
  • Demonstrated LGBT cultural competence;
  • Experience working with underrepresented communities and/or people of color;
  • Excellent written communication skills with experience in grant writing preferred;
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently as needed;
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Web, Access database;
  • Self-motivation, enthusiasm, and a desire to make a difference in the Santa Cruz
  • community will be key;
  • Sales or sales management experience helpful;
  • Some graphic design skills helpful;
  • Bachelors Degree preferred;
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.


Salary and Hours:

The hourly wage for this non-exempt position will range from $16.50 to $18.50 per hour. Hours will range from 30 to 40 hours per week. The position includes health benefits and will require some evening and weekend work time.
