History of the Center
The Diversity Center was granted 501(c)(3) not-for-profit status in December of 1989 as the Santa Cruz Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Community Center, Inc. (SCLGBTCC) and has served as Santa Cruz County's primary LGBT service agency ever since.
The name "The Diversity Center" was adopted in the fall of 1999 and DBA ("Doing Business AS") paperwork was filed with the state.
The Diversity Center maintains a drop-in space, lending library, and numerous social and support groups, in addition to its status as a fiscal agent to numerous projects.
Over the years the Diversity Center has hosted all manner of events and activities, including self-defense classes, workshops with legal and financial professionals, film festivals, book signings, vigils and demonstrations, art shows, and theatrical and musical productions.
For the last eleven years the Diversity Center has also been the producer of the Santa Cruz Pride Parade and Celebration, an annual event that draws thousands of people to downtown Santa Cruz each June.
